Warwick Brown was not a well-kown race driver when he first came to
the U.S. late in 1974, but after competing in the final three races of the
SCCA/USAC Formula 5000 Championship series he left little doubt of
his potential. His 1974 finishes in third, fifth and 11th put him seventh
in the final point standings that year. In 1975, Brown started off his
racing season by capturing the Peter Stuyvesant Tasman Cup
Championship in Australia/New Zealand. He led all but one of the eight
races in his LolaT332, scored two victories and twice placed second
for his best finishes. He also won the final race in the Tasman series in
1974. That victory culminated a 12-month battle of recovery from an
accident in 1973 in which both of Brown’s legs were broken. He is a
director of a family road building business after climbing his way up
from digging ditches. Brown finished seventh in the 1975 Formula
5000 Championship series after finding it difficult to come to grips with
a Jack McCormack-built Talon. His best finish of the year was a third at
Mosport Park, the second race of the series. He scored a fourth at
Watkins Glen and two sixth-place finishes at Mid-Ohio and Long
Beach. This year(1976), Brown is behind the wheel of a Lola T332-C
entered by Bob Bay of Bay Racing.
