Cars: Eagle-Chevy Driver: Dave Jordan, a 32-year-old southern Californian, has been racing 10 years, and specialized in driving Porsches. He and Scooter Patrick placed a Lola fourth in class and seventh overall at the Daytona 24-hour race earlier this year. President: John Crean, 45, of Riverside, Calif., one of the world’s Iargest builders of trailers and campers, has been president of AIR since last October. He is a former racer himself, having competed in his own version of a Porsche Speedster (he simply removed the top of a coupe) in 1952-3. Director: James Garner is the big name in AIR. The actor has had a life-long interest in cars and was pumping gas when he was discovered. He got into road racing after starring in “Grand Prix.” He owns many cars, but prefers his Austin Mini-Cooper. Team Manager: Bill Rohrbacher, 36, is a former drag and stock car racer. A grad of Loyola University, he worked closely with Bill Stroppe’s off-road Broncos. Crew Chief: Jim Wright as a drag racer built the engine for the first gasser to turn 100 mph in under eight seconds. The 34-year-old mechanic also builds engines for drag boats.
