Lyle Forsgren is a rarity in racing in the United States, for not only does
he build race cars, but he also drives them. A magna cum laude
graduate of the University of Washington in 1958, Forsgren joined the
Boeing Company in Seattle where he worked from 1959 to 1969 as a
lead research engineer in supersonic propulsion laboratories. He
started designing a highly successful series of small-bore sports racing
cars in 1958, forming Forsgren Engineering Limited which is devoted
solely to design and manufacture of race cars. His career as a
manufacturer was highlighted by fellow Seattlean Mike Campbell taking
the Formula C national championship at the Riverside ARRC runoffs in a
Forsgrini single seat built by his firm. Driving his own sports racing cars,
Forsgren took several regional championships as well as two divisional
championships.
