A veteran driver of the long-distance World of Championship of
makes races, Clive Baker is also well acquainted with open-
wheeled cars. He began racing in 1961 and received his first
“works” ride in 1963 at the LeMans 24 Hours in Donald Healey’s
Sprite prototype. Baker has a total of 17 first-place finishes in
class between 1963 and 1972 at such famous circuits as LeMans,
Spa, Nurburgring, Daytona and Sebring, all of which explains why
his nickname is “Clive the Drive.” He also has numerous wins in
small-engined formula machines. In addition to the Healey factory
ride, he has been on the teams of Cooper Car Co., British
Leyland and most recently the Mazda factory team. He competed
in two L&M Championship races in 1972 but failed to earn any
points.
